Who diagnoses dyslexia?

Diagnosing dyslexia involves a thorough medical, family, educational, and psychological history, observation of reading/writing, and specific assessments to pinpoint the struggles, ruling out other issues like vision/hearing problems.  Then a comprehensive assessment (not a single test) should be performed by a qualified professional, such as an educational or neuropsychologist. They will assess reading, language, and cognitive skills to identify patterns of difficulty with decoding, fluency, spelling, and comprehension despite adequate instruction. The evaluations include phonological processing, rapid naming, and overall literacy.
