About Me
My Story
My name is Zane Prasad. I am 15-years-old and I have dyslexia. My goal is to educate and support teens and their parents on their journey learning to overcome the challenges dyslexia creates.
What sparked this passion? After a move to a new state and a new school for my freshman year I looked back at my years in school. There were many memories, but so many of them were negative. "You are so bright, if you'd just work harder." Frustrated teachers, parents and above all, frustrated me! I was working hard, harder than most of my peers, but I had little to show for it. No A's, no awards. Little self confidence. Nothing came easy. My parents started interventions early, but there was no magic bullet except for my perserverance. School breaks and summers have been filled with reading programs and tutoring.
When I started my freshman year of high school, not knowing a soul, I wanted to be the best version of myself. I vowed to try my hardest, to never give up and to get outside my comfort zone. I worked hard during that year, doing better academically than I ever had, except for English. I paid attention, did the work, studied, and asked for help and yet, I did poorly on every test. I was discouraged and felt hopeless. Would reading comprehension and writing ever become easy? I had never spent much time thinking about dyslexia, what it meant besides reading struggles or how it would impact my future, but that changed.
I started reading about the effects of dyslexia across one’s life and the support one needs beyond a structured reading program. I scoured websites and read books. As the information set in, my motivation was sparked. Not only did I need to help myself, I felt the need to help other teens struggling.
We are often misunderstood, by non-dyslexic parents, teachers, coaches and peers. It has not been an easy road, but I am learning how to thrive and so can you!
